What can you convert?
We'll undertake conversions from anything to just about anything, be it a picture you want converted from one
image format to another, to a database that needs to be migrated. Text files, video clips, you name it.
It's risk-free on your part too: submit a conversion request, cancel it anytime until we decide to start
working on your job, and get a full refund if we can't do the conversion. We offer both one-time
conversions and software solutions through an easy-to-use web interface.
What do you mean by "software solution"?
There are two services we offer: the first is where you give us something, we convert it, then give it back to you.
The second pertains more to data files and is more of interest to businesses. It involves writing a software program which accepts the source format as input and produces the target format as output. This program is the final product, not a converted document. If you don't understand what this means, you probably don't want this.
How much do you charge?
See our Pricing section for details.
How do we both know you've successfully converted something?
For something like a document or image format, it's pretty obvious: either you or we
open the document up and if it looks okay, it has been successfully converted. For
things like text files, XML, etc., you need to give us sample input and output data.
If our conversion process successfully converts your sample input data to the output
data, then we've succeeded. Our success is therefore dependent on an accurate description
of the source and target formats.
"Target format"? What if I don't know my target format?
That's okay. You can purchase hours of hour consulting time and we'll help you figure that out.
When you convert something to something else, it is possible to lose information?
Yes, it is. Let's take PDF documents as an example. PDF documents have no notion of columns, margins, tables etc., so when you convert something like a
Word or OpenOffice document to PDF, you lose that information. Conversely, when you want to convert a
PDF document to a Word document, you have to guess about things like margins, columns, tables etc. and those guesses
might produce a document of inferior quality than one that had been created in that format in the
first place. The same holds true with image formats.
When doing conversions from a format with less information to a format with more information, you have two choices: either accept the guesses and the fact that the resultant document might be of inferior quality, or else have a human being try to fill in the missing information in the target format. The latter option is much more costly, of course. We'll let you know if you're attempting a conversion from "less to more" or "more to less" and inform you of your options before we proceed.
How does the conversion process work?
You use our easy-to-use web interface to tell us what you need. We'll look at your request and either accept it or decline it (not enough information, too difficult for us, etc.). Before we accept it, you may cancel your request at any time and have no further obligation to us. You agree to pay a minimum charge (currently $75) if we accept your request. We will only charge your credit card upon successful conversion.
If we accept your request, we will either perform the conversion, bill you the minimum charge, and deliver the completed conversion to you. If your conversion is too complex to be performed for the minimum charge, we will quote you a price for the conversion and not charge your credit card. You then either accept the quote or decline it. If you accept it, then the quote is binding unless we fail to perform the work by the completion date, in which case you may cancel the assignment without cost.
Note: by "conversion", we mean either the converted document or the software solution, depending which option you choose.
When determining your requirements, it may be that we need to work with you to figure out what you really want. If this is the case, we will ask you to purchase hours of our consulting time prior to submitting your request. You are under no obligation to do this, however.
Are you nice?
Yes, I'm very nice. My staff and I are very professional too. Since I'm a software consultant, I have to be nice and professional to survive.
